My name is Anna Lysack and I am one of the summer interns at the Daly House Museum. I am from Brandon and I currently study history at Canadian Mennonite University. This is my second year at the museum as last year I was the Collections Assistant. As Research Assistant, I will be spending the next few months organizing the Spectacles Then and Now exhibit which will open October 2017. The exhibit’s themes of sports and recreation have particular interest to me because I have long been involved in activities such as tennis, long distance running, and soccer.
I will be selecting 25 photos from a photographic collection taken by J.B. Whitehead around 1909. Each selected photo and the Whitehead family will be researched to provide background information to the photographic display. In partnership with Keywest Photo, the museum is running a online contest in which members of the public are invited to recreate the historic photographs. The best submissions will be displayed in the exhibit alongside their turn of the century counterparts. More information can be found on the Daly House Museum website and on our Facebook page.
I look forward to exploring the recreational history of Brandon and area, and I hope to see lots of your recreated photos!
